Hosting FAQs
What’s the difference between a domain and hosting?
Think of a domain name like a book title for your website, e.g The Great Gatsby. Now you can buy that domain name from a place like GoDaddy or Network Solutions. The shelf that you choose to put that book on is the server. This is where the website is hosted and the data actually physically resides. You can move that book to different servers and the book title stays the same.
Why aren’t your hosting accounts unlimited?
Many hosting plans out there sell you on the fact that your bandwidth and storage are “unlimited”. You’re a smart person, you say “what’s the catch?”
What they don’t tell you is that you will far sooner hit a server memory or CPU limit than you ever will reach a bandwidth limit. It is a silly, empty promise. Once your site starts to get more traffic and consumes more bandwidth, you may end up with a TOS violation and they’ll force you to move or upgrade your account. We don’t play these silly mind games with you.
What systems will you host?
We only host Linux-based Content Management Systems. 98% of our website hosting is WordPress. We do have the capability to host many others such as: Joomla, Drupal, Magento, ExpressionEngine, PrestaShop, and simple HTML sites.
What about email?
We strongly recommend Google Apps for Business as an enterprise-quality email provider. Most of our customers opt to upgrade to this industry-leading email solution. If you want other options, we can do standard webmail accounts, Microsoft® Exchange accounts, or help you purchase a custom-tailored solution.
What kind of experience do you have?
We don’t like to brag, but we host over 200 websites ranging from mom-and-pop (literally) operations to corporate clients and everything in between. We have dealt with many hosting companies and if we aren’t a good match, we’d love to give a recommendation.
